Seeking a Righteous Path
Do you believe Jesus supports war, violent displacement, and the suffering of innocent people?
Many Christians believe that supporting Israel is a biblical obligation. But what does it mean to bless Israel?
Does it mean supporting every action of the Israeli government regardless of the consequences? Or does it mean encouraging Israel to pursue justice, mercy, righteousness, and peace?
Christians can debate whether the modern state of Israel has a biblical right to the land. Yet even if we conclude that it does, an unavoidable question remains: What about the Palestinian Muslims and Christians who already live there? Are they not also human beings created in the image of God? Do their lives, homes, and communities have no value? If they refuse to leave their homes and communities, what should happen to them? Would Jesus endorse their violent displacement?
The Palestinians are not the Amalekites or any other ancient people described in the Old Testament. They are people created by God whose lives have the same value as the lives of Israelis, Americans, and everyone else.
For many believers, the return of the Jewish people to their historic homeland was never meant to be about domination, conquest, or the displacement of others. It was meant to be the restoration of a people, a faith, and a spiritual center. Jerusalem occupies a unique place in the hearts of Jews, Christians, and Muslims alike. Rather than becoming a symbol of perpetual conflict, it can become a beacon of reconciliation, righteousness, and hope for the entire region.
A righteous path does not require abandoning Israel. It requires helping Israel become the nation it was meant to be: a nation known for justice, peace, and moral leadership rather than perpetual conflict and territorial expansion.
For decades, the United States has provided extraordinary financial, military, and diplomatic support while hoping to advance peace and stability. Yet the conflict continues, settlements continue to expand, and a lasting peace remains elusive.
Israel’s security concerns are real and cannot be ignored. Yet Christians must also ask whether the current approach is producing the results we hope for. Despite decades of extraordinary support, the region remains trapped in cycles of war, violence, and instability. If this approach has not led to reconciliation, justice, or peace, wisdom requires us to consider whether a different path is needed.
Christians can support the people of Israel without supporting every action of the Israeli government. Genuine friendship is not measured by unquestioning approval, but by a willingness to encourage what is right.
To bless Israel today is not to excuse wrongdoing wherever it may occur. It is to encourage righteousness, justice, and peace for everyone who calls the Holy Land home.
